A number of sites known as sea turtle nesting beaches were part of Libya's Environment Minister No. 272 of 2021 on the establishment of marine and coastal protected areas. These areas have been selected after accumulating knowledge of the density of nesting since the beginning of work on the Libyan sea turtle protection programme in 2005, and included areas declared as the reserves of the beaches of western Sirte , which are characterized by a high density of Loggerhead sea turtle nests, the beaches of Sebkhat Sultan, Tauergha, the sandy coasts of Ogla, Shat Elbadin and the beaches of Wadi Al-Kuf.
